The name Kodagu originated from "Kodinalenad" which means "dense forest land on steep hills". Coorg is situated on the Karnataka - Kerala border, it is bound on the north by the Hassan, on the east by the Mysore and on the west by the Dakshina Kannada districts of Karnataka. On the South, it is separated from the Cannanore district of Kerala by the Brahmagiri range of hills.
